Benefits of Kids' Yoga

Yoga is a fun and engaging way for your child to exercise, learn and relax. Yoga postures help them understand how their bodies move and develops an awareness of their surroundings and other people.

Simple Mindfulness techniques encourage kids to find ways to understand and cope with their emotions. Through stories, singing and actions we learn about the world around us, and these also link to Key Stage learning topics.

What to expect at a kids' yoga class?

At a children’s yoga class we will sing, move and relax. Classes include welcome songs, a warm-up Sun Sequence, a yoga story with movements and sounds based and a relaxation. Sometimes we will undertake a craft project, or read a book together or play a game. The whole session is based on a theme.

Themes include:

  • Dinosaur Hunting
  • Space Picnics
  • The seasons
  • Seasonal festivals
  • Jungle Safaris
  • Pirate adventures
  • Round the World
  • Star Wars

And we also love interpreting our favourite books like:

  • We’re Going on a Bear Hunt
  • The Very Hungry Caterpillar
  • The Gruffalo
  • Aliens Love Underpants
  • The Princess and the Wizard

Yoga fosters compassion and collaboration, and helps children learn to concentrate.

It encourages kids to feel content and happy with themselves, and to understand the benefits of being alert but calm in a busy world.

My Kids' Yoga Training

I teach pre-school and primary school age children from 2 up to 11. After training to teach adults I completed my Kids’ Yoga and Mindfulness Foundation Course with the wonderful Yogabeez a Yoga Alliance International accredited Children’s Yoga and Mindfulness School in 2015.

I absorb into my teaching the principles of Dru Yoga, YogaBeez and the excellent lesson plans of Cosmic Kids Yoga. If you’d like to try some yoga with your kids at home, I highly recommend checking out Cosmic Kids on YouTube.

I can offer indoor sessions at your venue and in the warmer months I am always keen to work outside. This means yoga sessions can be part of outdoor adventures and Forest School sessions, incorporating Woodland Bathing and connecting to our outdoor environment.

Looking for a unique birthday party idea? Why not have a Kids’ Yoga Party! Get in touch to discuss the options for a Kids’ Yoga Party at your home or your hired venue. Themes can be tailored to your child’s current interests and age group. Sessions are inclusive of all children irrespective of their physical or learning abilities.

For younger children, or children with additional needs, their responsible adult does need to be present, and are strongly encouraged to take part!
