“there really is nothing better than sorting out your chakras with a fresh British breeze.” – Buzzfeed
Rooftop Yoga Peckham was a two-year yoga project run by Lucyoga on the roof of the Peckham Multi-Story Car Park. Surrounded by the sculptures of Bold Tendencies and on the same site as the famous Frank’s Campari Bar, this was yoga with a view, and a half! The full London sky line marched across the front of our yoga mats as we practiced.
“…I’ll stick to comparatively gentle Dru Yoga, performed on a rooftop in Peckham Rye with a legendary view.” – Time Out London
Starting in 2013 with just one class a week, it quickly gained a loyal and enthusiastic following. The next year we expanded, running four classes a week on the rooftop. If the weather was fine, which it invariably was, we could practice in the fresh air and gentle breezes, looking out over London. If it rained we went down to the covered levels and practiced in the heart of this semi-abandoned piece of Brutalist architecture.
“As it was pouring down with rain, we practiced on the lower level, and something has to be said of someone who can bring warmth and joy to a carpark in Peckham!” – Faschercise
A full archive of the 2014 season of Rooftop Yoga Peckham is available on the Rooftop Yoga Peckham website. The sessions featured weekly Dru Yoga with Lucy, Vinyasa Flow with Tania Brown and Rocket Yoga with Zoe Sharp. On Monday nights we hosted the Sunset Sessions with Project HB, with guest yoga styles including Voga, Broga, Boxing Yoga, Hot Power Yoga and many more.
