Lunchtime Class now has a new venue

I am delighted to announce that my lunchtime class has a new home. Thanks to East Street Arts my class will take place on the 7th Floor of City Exchange on Albion Street for the forseable future.

It is a wonderful large, warm and clean venue with lots of room for new students, private spaces to get changed in and absolutely stunning views across the whole of Leeds!

Cityexchange

The class runs from 12:30 - 1:15, must be booked in advance and costs £30 for a block of six sessions, payable after your first class.

If you are interested in joining the class please call me on 07751520889 for a chat and to book your place.

And I highly recommend coming along 5 minutes early to check out that view!

Tips for Yoga newbies

Starting something new can be intimidating, but don't be scared - every body is different (note the two separate words here) and that is something to celebrate.

Below I'll pose and answer some of the questions a total yoga newbie might ask. If I've missed one, leave a comment and I'll answer it if I can.

These answers relate to my Dru Yoga classes - they may be the same for other classes too but you should check with the teacher about the level of competence and physical fitness you need for their class and other forms of yoga.

Q: I've never done yoga before, can I come to the class?

A: Absolutely. Everyone has to start somewhere! Both my classes are for all abilities and many of my students are total beginners.

Q: I'm not flexible at all. Is that OK?

A: Yes. That is a very good reason to come to yoga. All the movements and postures in Dru can be modified so that everyone can do them. It is important though to let me know if you have any specific health problems so that I can advise you personally on what you should and shouldn't try. Safety is paramount.

My path to Dru Yoga: a 10 year anniversary

This September the world will remember the terrible events of September 11 2001 as we mark it's 10th anniversary. But September 11 2011 will also mark a personal anniversary for me. 10 years ago, when I was just 23, I developed Shingles in my face and was subsequently left with debilitating nerve damage in my Trigeminal Nerve.

In the run up to me developing Shingles my health had been rapidly deteriorating as I worked long hours in a fabric shop and had not fully recovered from my previous job which required me to drive hundreds of miles each week, surviving on a diet of ready meals, caffeine, doughnuts and stress.
